A heated debate erupted online after a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Riley M. Moore, responded to comments made by former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The congressman made his response on his X (formerly Twitter) page on the evening of Monday, November 3, 2025.

Kwankwaso, who once served as Kano State governor, had expressed concern over Trump’s remarks labeling Nigeria as a country of concern regarding religious freedom. In his statement, Kwankwaso said Trump should not use threats, emphasizing that Nigeria is struggling with challenges from terrorist groups. He called on the United States to assist with modern technology in combating insecurity instead of issuing warnings.

Kwankwaso further urged Nigerians to focus on unity and protecting the nation’s dignity at this critical time.
However, Moore swiftly replied with a harsh response, accusing Kwankwaso of hypocrisy. He alleged that Kwankwaso had implemented Sharia law in Kano during his tenure as governor. According to Moore, Kwankwaso signed laws prescribing death penalties for blasphemy, which, he argued, contradicts the religious freedoms the United States stands for.
