Residents of Riruwai and Doguwa towns in Doguwa Local Government Area have expressed deep frustration over the continued abandonment of the Doguwa 5KM road project, despite the recent review and revalidation of the contract by the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The project, which was divided into two segments one located in Riruwai, the local government headquarters, and the other in Doguwa town has remained at a standstill for months.
During an inspection tour by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, residents lamented that the contractor abandoned both sites, citing inflation and rising construction costs as excuses.
Despite the state government’s review of the contract to address these challenges, hopes for the project’s resumption have faded as no progress has been made.
A community leader in Doguwa, Malam Saminu Adam, described the situation as a betrayal of public trust and a sabotage to the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
“We were told that the state government had revalidated the project, but since then, no equipment, no workers, nothing. The road is now worse than ever before,” he lamented.

In his response, Hon. Commissioner Nura Ma’aji Sumaila appealed for calm, assuring the residents that his ministry would not tolerate any form of negligence from contractors handling state projects.
“In September, an agreement was reached between the state government and all contractors that every 5KM road project across the state must be completed by December 25,” he stated.
“It is our mandate to follow up before the deadline, assess progress, and submit an interim report to His Excellency Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.”
In contrast, the commissioner noted that the Tudun Wada 5KM road project is progressing well, as the contractor has fully mobilized the site. Barring minor relocation challenges, the project is expected to meet the governor’s December completion deadline.
Earlier in the day, the commissioner also paid a courtesy visit to Warawa and Dawakin Kudu border communities in connection with the abandoned Dogarawa–Katarkawa–Gogel 12KM road project.

When completed, the road would significantly boost economic activities in Katarkawa, Yan Gizo, Gogel, Madari, Amarawa, and Yar Gaya communities along the corridor.
The Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring accountability and timely completion of all infrastructural projects under the Kano State Road Development Initiative.
